While it seems that majority of Tampa has already seen RENT — that didn’t stop them from showing up for opening night! Now, I was in that 1% that had not seen it before, movie or show. Whether you are the 99% or the 1%, RENT is quite the entertaining show.
My quick synopsis, without sharing the entire show: I did find it hard to follow (my fault for not doing research or watching the movie ahead of time), but the music was oh-so-lively & fantastic. I loved how the smaller band was on stage; the fewer instruments really allowed the vocals & talent to shine. Something to note…it is for a more mature audience so leave the little peeps at home.
RENT has been using their pipes to pay rent for 20 years — and sharing their story. While two decades is some time, the issues they face, we’re still facing today; it is truely eyeopening that 20 years later and the same issues can still come to head with society, race, orientation and even class.
The song “No Day but Today” struck my fancy for multiple reasons; in the minutes the song was being sung, it was a great reminder of so many things. No Day but Today to do what you love — without sharing too much, this currently resonates with me so much. No Day but Today to forgive someone and stop holding that grudge. No Day but Today to take a leap, take a healthy dare, do something a little crazy. No Day but Today to give a hug, and receive one. No Day but Today to make a stand for what you believe in — now, more than ever.
