Disney Marathon Weekend is almost upon us! In past years, I was signed up, running costume created and ready to run some magical miles. This year… I will be missing out on running through my favorite places, but that can’t stop me from sharing tips for race week. Plus, advice from Cigna on overcoming roadblocks as you run 26.2 in just a week!
running in costume. If you’re able, take one of your training runs in your costume. A run of even a few miles will help you figure out any tweaks that need to be made or where you may need some extra glide!
PR? fun run? By now, you’ve already decided which approach to take… so take it to heart. Having mental clarity will be key race morning, as it can be a little hectic.
prepare. Traveling to Orlando for the race — start packing. Driving in — bring extra water, snacks, etc. Purchase your race energy ahead of time… even if you can get it during the expo. It’s safer to have it in advance, just in case you can’t find your favorite flavor while exploring the expo. And check the weather! Planning for your outfit, and what to bring is just plain smart, and will save you from buying more clothes, or bringing too many.
fast passes. dinner reservations. While it is a little late to these… it doesn’t hurt to try and plan some! If you’ll be enjoying the parks while you’re visiting Disney World, make some fast pass selections. One of the biggest pieces of advice I give is to plan some of your meals in advance. Snag reservations if you can, or plan where you will eat so to make your pre-race evening smoother — this way you ensure enough sleep too!
tunes. It is usually discouraged not to run with headphones during a big race, I always suggest having some as backup — especially for that 26.2 distance! So get that iPod ready ahead of time, charge it up so you have tunes to keep that pace.
Since I helped out for the week before, Cigna is helping out for race day! Check out below for a few tips… even if you’re not running 26.2.
