thanks to my relationship with the Tampa Bay Bloggers & the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, I did receive complimentary tickets in exchange for social media & blog love. all opinions are my own.
Every once in a while, something unexpected affects you in an unexplainable way. This is what Waitress did for my friend Lauren, an amazing local actress – her bright blue Waitress hoodie gives it away. I had to ask the significance of why she wore it, since her usual attire is like myself, that amazing athleisure wear. So instead of a typical review, I want to share how Waitress touched her. Catch it for yourself at the Straz, now until Sunday, April 29th – you can get tickets here.
A quick interview with Lauren Buglioli: (in summary)
I had just moved to Tampa and was missing the theater… Sara Bareilles had just released the song “She Used To Be Mine” and it shifted my soul. *more on that in a bit…* It was recently announced they were holding auditions for “Cabaret”, I was terrified but just went for it. That experience changed my life. To assist with your suspense, she did get the role and is has been in the theater since!
Not long after the song was released, I saw Waitress in New York with my best friend Dave, about a year and a half ago. After seeing my reaction to the show, he surprised me & took me backstage – I was absolutely starstruck.
“She Used To Be Mine” is very raw, real and very relatable. It speaks to all of us in a different way – we all struggle, we are all a little hard on ourselves. You can lose yourself, there are ups & downs but you have to reconnect to that fire inside you, and even reinvent yourself. This song was that moment for me – we have to constantly reinvent yourself to continue growing & learning. This song helped reignite my soul to get back into theater – you really never do know how your own art will affect someone else, just as the same as Sara’s song shook me up. One tip, surround yourself by doers, those cheerleaders – to push you and help you keep going after what you love.
And since I had to add a piece of pie to the mix – Pecan Pie is Lauren’s pie of choice, since she’s a Southern girl at heart. Next up for my gorgeous, dear friend – she is moving to Atlanta in the summer to continue pursuing her acting career. Tampa (myself included) will miss her dearly!
