Galaxy’s Edge: Maximize Your Visit

Happy Friday! Yesterday, Galaxy’s Edge officially opened at Hollywood Studios! It was no secret I was pretty pumped, woke up at 3AM, was in the security line by 4:15AM, in the park by 4:30AM… and officially in line for Smuggler’s Run by 5AM. As a fan of Star Wars, I knew that I love LOVE the new addition – but this land has something for everyone, even if it’s just to enjoy the crazy amounts of detail they put into making this galaxy a reality.

Without spoiling anything – here are a few tips to make your trip to Galaxy’s Edge outta this world. (yes, I said it)

Play Disney app. Before you get into the park, download the Play Disney app – it does take wi-fi to download, so plan ahead. This app allows you to do some fun interactions in the land, and have some fun. And, you don’t even have to be in the parks to play!

Join your Boarding Group. As SOON as you have scanned your magic band and are in the park – open up your Disney World app! On the main page, you’ll see the tidbit about Galaxy’s Edge, click ‘find out more’, from there you’ll see ‘Join Boarding Group.’ By joining a boarding group, you are ‘reserving’ your spot to enter Galaxy’s Edge. The app will set your spot and even notify you when it’s your time! They are limiting the number of people allowed to enter Galaxy’s Edge to make it the best experience for everyone. It does not seem like they’ll kick anyone out, but they are being mindful of the crowds. Once the app notifies you to return, you’ll have two hours to make your way to another world.

Lines. Ther are lines for eeeevertying. If you want your own droid, a lightsaber to defend the galaxy, or just visit them – there will probably be a line. Visit them early, or be ready to wait.

Merchandise. Honestly, I did not do much shopping – but there were definitely items for opening weekend. I did find a passholder exclusive & limited release, plus another limited release one. There were also a lot of ‘open edition’ trading pins. And of course, we know that you can make your own lightsaber & droid!

Also about merch: the cool Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite bottles that you have seen… For my out-of-town peeps, supposedly you are not able to travel home with them on the airplane. See this post for more details.

Smuggler’s Run was soooo cool! Like, super cool. My first time, I did wait 2+ hours to ride it – waiting in the normal queue does allow you to see more behind the scenes of the Millennium Falcon, and even cool angles of the ship. I would highly recommend getting the full effect from the queue at least once – I’m not sure if the queue for fast passes gets to see the same… However, their Single Rider line was where it was at! I waited 30-40 minutes for my second & third visit into the galaxy. The queue is simply a staircase, but hey, that short wait time! Also, your ride can change depending on your crew. The ride is intense, but fun – and so interactive. Depending on how you are at your tasks, along with your crew, can completely change your ride on the Millennium Falcon!

Cast Members. Interact with them! All of them are straight out of Batuu and in character to add to the experience of being in another galaxy.

Reservations. If you can snag them, grab reservations for Oga’s Cantina, even if it is just for a drop-in visit. Grab a quick bite or even a fun beverage, Batuu style.

The basics. Don’t forget your sunscreen – it’s hot. Bring a refillable water bottle. Go to Target and buy a fan – game changer. There is not a lot of natural shade in Galaxy’s Edge; there are plenty of umbrellas, but there are not a lot of easy ways to get out of the Reys (see what I did there, ha).

Have you already visited Galaxy’s Edge? What was your favorite part?
