Interesting little Caitlyn fact for you – did you know my dad was an architect? That is what brought my family down to Tampa and made me a Tampa native! He did it all – helped renovate one of the wings in the Tampa airport, assisting in the restoration for a well-known building in Ybor City, designed multiple kitchens for local homes, and even did our own kitchen cabinet installations in a couple of our houses.
Having grown up with an abnormal appreciation for cabinetry, I have seen a lot of kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms in my day. Sharing my odd wealth of knowledge, here are some tips and things to consider if you are in the market for a new design for your living space.
Do your research and create a budget. Take a look at the space you want to renovate, re-do, or add to – then let your mind go! Consider all the spaces in your home that have cabinets & countertops – think outside of the box and even think of where you could use some cabinets. Growing up, I always had cabinets in my bedrooms and loved having the extra space for storage and keeping my stuff organized (yes, I was one of those kids!).
I would suggest utilizing Pinterest, lifestyle bloggers and even ask your friends on Facebook for their favorite attributes of their home, kitchen, bathroom, etc. Or, take a peek at the professionals; many times, companies in the industry will share ideas to help get your mind in the right direction, such as Premier Surfaces. Take notes, highlight your favorites and get ideas. From there, do some research on companies to do the job – and what their pricing looks like. Once you have an idea on that, you’ll be able to formulate a budget on what you want to be done immediately and maybe keep some ideas & dreams for the next round, or once you have done some more saving.
Maybe a few bits & pieces. Sometimes, a big overhaul is not something you need, but you want something different. Consider adding a few new details to your space – a few décor items, a favorite photo, or even some real flowers to brighten up the room.
Sounds silly but consider tile! If you are looking to add a touch of color to your bathroom or kitchen, adding a backsplash under your cabinets can be just what you were looking for! ‘Decorative Tile’ can be an easy addition with the help of Premier Surfaces.
We like our cabinets but… Your countertop can make ALL the difference! Considering that the countertop is usually the largest surface area of your kitchen – let it make a statement. There are multiple options of what it can be, granite, marble, limestone, or even quartzite – but do not forget to consider a few things:
Price. Natural stone is gorgeous but can be higher in price. Consider how long you foresee you living in the space because…
Longevity. Natural stone can typically look nicer longer and does hold up well.
Kids. You love them; they’re yours; but how are they going to treat your new addition?
Your cleanliness & cooking. Sounds silly, but think about how often you clean, the kind of food you cook, etc. Consider your countertop color to go with your lifestyle and your style too. For instance, Cambria Countertops are popular when it comes to quality, scratch-resistant countertops for your kitchen, and they offer 145 designs in nine collections. Any questions you need to ask, the friendly staff at Premier Surfaces can help answer them and give you the countertop that fits your needs, lifestyle, and personality.
Go big or go home. If you are considering an overhaul for your entire house, or, are fulfilling a dream and building your own home, consider all of the above – and choose one vendor. I know, this sounds so silly, but hear me out. Having watched my dad put together our kitchens, and even with helping a past boyfriend makeover his place – working with minimal vendors is ideal. Find a professional company that offers what you are looking for and can back up their word. Look at their credentials, or even ask to see some of their past work. Knowing that you are going with a reputable company can save you from so many headaches, and ultimately, money – knowing that you are going with a company that will do the job well. My tip, check out their website and even Google reviews. Read what they’re about – it is usually easy to see if a company’s work is really their passion! Take a visit to Premier Surface’s site and use that as a reference for what you should be looking for.
And… good luck! A home, or even just a room renovation can be a big task but well worth it in the end!
