My first job out of college was with a rising [at the time] staffing company just outside of Ybor; for you lovelies that do not reside in Tampa, Ybor is the original pulse of the city. Years ago, along side downtown, Ybor is where the people were humming, buzzing with the times — work, entertainment, you name it. Ybor is the spot you hit up for a night out for beverages, people watching, clubbing, or that crazy bachelorette party. Ybor City has definitely gone through its stages and it is on the up as I type — it is a great place for that fun night out, but also for date night or a weekend stroll through it’s historic, brick streets. And yes…I had to tell you all of that just because I love Tampa & history, you’re welcome. But, that leads the to the fun part — why you should happy hour it up! Back to that first company I worked for out of college, it was a minutes walk from Ybor…where so many happy hour adventures occurred. It was a blast being so close to where all the fun could be consumed as we happy hour’d it up! Here are a few of my reasons why I give Happy Hour a big bear hug from time to time.

unwind from the week. No, we don’t need an adult beverage to relax — but you know that first sip is the first time all week where you — your brain, you body, your thoughts — has actually stopped and taken in the moment. We’re all programmed to go–go–go and those moments of stopping and relaxing are few & far between. Before you start chatting it up with your coworker or friend, just sit, take another sip, and just be.

try a new place! I am letting you in on one of my secrets! Any new restaurant in the area I always try to visit for their happy hour first. Why? Well, it is a great way to get a preview of what the restaurant is about, try a few of their small dishes and get a taste of their beverages — without spending too much or taking too much time. Which leads me to my next reason…
[if you know me, you know burgers are my thing. if you didn’t know — well you learn something new everyday! 😉 but this. no words can express. so tasty. all the yummy. so many flavorful tastes but not too much.]
grab some good deals. Does this need an explanation?! But really, a lot of restaurants & bars do happy hour specials on beverages and food. You mean I can have my favorite Sangria for half off?? Or my Tito’s & club soda for only $5?? Yes please! Take advantage — try a new drink — sample a couple appetizers — get the vibe of a new restaurant and leave with a little more $$ in you wallet. Why, Del Frisco’s has their happy hour Monday thru Friday 4PM to 630PM — be there or be square!
[i’m irish — therefore it is in my blood to be a sucker for potatoes. that standing food phenomenon — it’s a loaded baked potato! and the steak…this is definitely a meal fit for a steak lover.]

catch up! Whether it be with a coworker, significant other or friend — unwind and chat it up with someone. Yes, I did mention taking a couple of deep breaths to yourself, but you & I both know it’s a great time to get back in touch with a friend or chat about something other than work!

i went to del frisco for my birthday at the ft.worth, texas location and everything was marvelous..seems like you had a lovely time.
