Since today is the day for giving thanks, giving back…and grubbing, t’s a perfect day to give you an update on Give & Grub.
Not familiar with Give & Grub? You can check out my past posts here and here for more details. But the quick version: It is a collaboration with the Tampa Bay Lightning and The Laser Spine Institute; with the use of a gourmet food truck, a hashtag & the community — Give & Grub is able to help those in need in the Tampa Bay community.
Give & Grub just celebrated their second anniversary ::: and a HUGE and AWESOME accomplishment of donating 150,000 meals to the community in their first year! A few weeks ago, they held an event at Palm River Elementary School to kick-off year two and announce that Palm River will be the honorary school to receive bi-weekly, Giveback backpacks.
[Don’t forget that you can help too! 1) Request the truck, 2) Using their hashtag – #giveandgrub, and 3) purchase a meal. With these efforts, Give & Grub then visits Palm River Elementary School twice a month, each child is able to receive a backpack with five nutritious meals for the weekend.]
The event was star studded, present was Dave Pillsbury, President of Laser Spine Institute, Thomas Mantz, Executive Director of Feeding Tampa Bay, and Tampa Bay Lightning players Ryan Callahan and Vladislav Namestnikov joined to sign autographs for the little fans.
And we can’t forget about ThunderBug! He’s the best and quite a dancer!
Another big announcement was pretty important ::: NEW MENU!
The menu has seen some changes, so if you have experienced Give & Grub, you’ll need to return to try the new additions! And don’t worry, those sweet potato fries are still on the menu. [thank goodness]
Here is a closer look at their menu items:
Another big announcement, through the partnership with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Give & Grub enabled Palm River Elementary School to pair up with the Lightning’s community hockey program.
This program allows kids in 4th and 5th grade to take part in 50-minute hockey training sessions and even games. With this new partnership, Palm River also received 40 hockey sticks, two nets, balls, four sets of goalie pads, and jerseys for their own equipment supply, so that they can continue playing hockey in PE class on a daily basis!
Overall, the event was super fun, the kids had a blast, and it was quite the kick off for year two of Give & Grub!
Don’t forget, you can do your part too. Use #GiveandGrub via social media, request the truck (perfect to come to your work space!), or find the truck (almost always at home Lightning games) and buy a meal!
And Happy Thanksgiving! What are you most thankful for today?
