Jersey Boys

Jersey Boys

Being a Tampa native, I first attended TPAC (Tampa Bay Performing Art Center) at the ripe age of six. Fast forward 20 years to 2009 and thanks to a generous donation, TPAC was renamed to the Straz Center. Since then, the traffic has increased and shows keep getting better & better!
I was very excited when the opportunity arose to see Jersey Boys. Since it was mid week, my friend (whom I knew loved the show) could not join me and he suggested that I bring Mom. {And it was right up her ally!} Since moving out, I’ve missed that pretty lady so I made it a date night for the two of us.
We dined at Fly Bar and headed to the Straz.

Quick outline of Jersey Boys
The show is the biography of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. You meet Tommy, the creator of the group and mind of the bunch. But he has a big ego that can get him into trouble.
Frankie is the little kid with the big voice. Tommy pulls him off the street, teaches him the basics, coaches his singing and helps his rise to stardom. Frankie is the one in the group that has the biggest heart and holds the group together.
Bob is the music brains…his talent of writing the songs, the jive, & making the moves for the group is magical.
Nick, quite the handsome fellow, is the bass singer…who always wanted his own group.
I knew that I was meant to bring my Mom when her song was sung, “Sherry”.
A few more good ones that I caught myself singing to: “Walk Like a Man”, “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)” & “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”.

In the end…through money issues, the law, jail time, multiple group names, death, divorce, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons still came out on top; they were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
The best part of the night was glancing over at my Mom and seeing the smile on her face. Unbeknownst to me, I was bringing back such good memories for her. She used to sit on the floor with her sister Leta and watch The Four Seasons on American Band Stand.
Overall, Jersey Boys was phenomenal; I now understand why my friend always said it was such a good show!
The lights!
The songs!
 The action!
The music!
Words cannot describe what it did for my mom to sit in that audience. The music brought back memories and their harmonies were perfect. All of the actors & actresses did an amazing job — and their accents were on point! The show was beyond entertaining and I highly recommend it.

Great review! My parents and I loved the show too. I was singing along with the cast. Nick was handsome but I like "Bob". Rumor has it that the actor that played Bob is related to Kevin Bacon.
