Straz Center: Fiddler on the Roof

*disclaimer: thanks to my relationship with The Straz Center and the Tampa Bay Bloggers, I did receive the opportunity to see Fiddler on the Roof in exchange for blog & social media love. all opinions are my own.

It is no secret that I am always up for a show at The Straz Center. Excuse me for sounding like a broken record, but love that I was able to visit The Straz Center as a child, and still can in my 30s. All the #tampalove.

To be honest, I was hesitant about attending Fiddler on the Roof; having seen it years before, I knew that seeing now, it may have a different meaning – a different impact. While the show’s ending is not for the faint of heart, it is full of familiar tunes, fun jives and gentle reminders to follow your heart. You can experience it for yourself, enjoy Fiddler on the Roof now, until Sunday, November 10th.

In my true fashion, I watched the show with full attention to find a way it would fit into life now. While it is a good reminder to follow your heart, I could not help but put ties between each main character to people we all have in our lives.

the Matchmaker. While they always mean well, they are the know it alls, the chatters. Strategically, their story begins… and always makes it back to a story about them.

the Witty One. Maaaaaybe my favorite; Papa portrayed this character perfectly. They do not take anything 100% seriously, have the best one-liners and have quite the wit – regardless of whether the situation calls for fun, or not.

the Rule Follower. Oh, Mama, this role was all her. Lamely, I have always managed to slip into this role… But we can all name someone who keeps everyone in line and sticks to all the rules.

the Hopeless Romantic. I loved how the oldest daughter claimed this role; even with poverty & some bad fortune, she fueled herself with love and was consistently optimistic.

the Risk Taker. I’d like to think that we all have a little bit of risky business up our sleeve to keep things interesting. As for the groom who married the first daughter, I highly doubt he regretted his risk of asking for her hand.

the Rebel. Graciously played by the second daughter, I admired her boldness to dance with the teacher, that they graciously welcomed into their home.

and the Teacher. Another one of my favorite characters; full of knowledge, always ready to throw a fun fact your way. Plus, a daily reminder to challenge yourself & to be curious.

Speaking of curiosity, I am curious – which character do you relate to most?
