Tampa has been yearning for something new — something fresh — something different. And that is exactly what Black Rock Bar & Grill has to offer.

We started the evening with delicious cocktails; I started with the Fresno Chili Margarita — a spicy spin on your typical margarita. They also have a long list of draft & bottled beers and extensive array of wines; don’t forget the tasty cocktails too! The Grilled Pineapple Collins was also a favorite of the table.

Wasting no time, we jumped into appetizers — but first! a little lesson.

Black Rock Bar & Grill really owns up to their name — for the meat & seafood dishes, may I introduce Volcanic Granite. After a quick demo from our knowledgable server, we took matters into our own hands and did the cooking! All of the granite is kept in house and takes up to eight hours to heat up to the simmering 755 degrees — this allows you to cook at your own discretion and even keeps in more of the tasty juices from your meat or seafood, which is usually lost from cooking on an open grill. And, let’s be real, this definitely adds a little fun to your meal!

Now, back to those appetizers…we could not resist the Black Rock Dueling Pretzel & Cheese Fondue. The nacho-style & white garlic cream cheese sat atop the volcanic granite and kept our cheesy goodness bubbling the entire time.

Since the Volcanic Granite was so enticing with just our cheese fondue, I could not resist ordering my main dish to include my own stone… And once I saw Lobster Jalapeño Mac-N-Cheese on the menu, I couldn’t resist. Plus, it was accompanied by a five ounce piece of signature sirloin steak — bring on cooking on the stone! And let’s not forget two tasty sides; I chose the baked potato & green beans. Everything was exceptional — not only was it fun to cook my steak, but it was full of flavor (even the next day as part of my leftovers!), the lobster mac-n-cheese was just cheesy enough, had lobster bits in the mix and was even topped with a lobster tail!

I was so impressed with the amount of food and all of it with so much flavor. Searing my own meat let me make it to perfection and was great to have and make my lobster tail just the right temperature.

If the stone isn’t up your alley, you have plenty of options with burgers, salads & sandwiches.

The evening could have ended here and would have been perfect…but then dessert arrived.

A decadent tower of waffle cone, ice cream, whip cream and all the chocolate & caramel sauce you could hope for, topped with sparklers! It was a party at our table — quite the way to end the evening!

I will definitely be returned to Black Rock Bar & Grill. Not only is it a great place for a date night or nice dinner out with friends, but the bar is welcoming and would be a great spot to watch a game or enjoy happy hour (enjoy sweet deals Mon-Fri, 4PM-7PM!). Thank you again for the experience!
